09-05-2023: Jammu and Kashmir Weather to Improve with Dry Spell After Days of Rains and Snowfall The Meteorological department has predicted a mainly dry weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir after days of rains in the plains and snowfall in the upper reaches caused a dip in the temperature.
The temperature is expected to rise from May 10 to May 12, producing warmer days followed by occasional rain or thunderstorm at isolated places from May 13 to May 15.
Dip in Temperature Caused by Fresh Snowfall Over Upper Reaches and Moderate Rains in Plains of Kashmir Valley Fresh snowfall over the upper reaches and moderate rains in the plains of the Kashmir Valley triggered wintry conditions and caused the day temperature to drop from 10-12 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature dipped 4-5 degrees Celsius, and several regions in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a low temperature than usual. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.3 degrees Celsius, which was 4.4 degrees Celsius below normal. Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway had a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, which was 3.4 degrees Celsius below normal. Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius, which was 3.7 degrees Celsius below normal for the famous tourist hot spot. Kokernag recorded a low of 4.0 degrees Celsius, which was 5.2 degrees Celsius below normal for the famous picnic hotspot of south Kashmir. Gulmarg had a low of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, which was 5.7 degrees Celsius below normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir. Kupwara recorded a low of 4.7 degrees Celsius, which was 4.6 degrees Celsius below normal for the frontier Kashmir district on Tuesday, according to the Met Office.
Rainfall Data for Past 24 Hours:
According to the data for the past 24 hours till 0830 hours on Tuesday, Srinagar received 6.4mm of rainfall, Qazigund 7.2mm, Pahalgam 25.3mm, Kupwara 8.2mm, Kokernag 19.8mm, and Gulmarg 15.0mm. The rainfall is expected to decrease, and the weather is likely to improve in the coming days.
