Former Pakistan pacer, Mohammad Amir, is reportedly in line for a possible international cricket comeback according to recent media reports. Amir retired from international Cricket in 2019 -20. He has since been playing franchise cricket all around the world. Most recently, he took 9 wickets in 7 matches for Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, missing several matches due to injury.

A report was recently published by Pakobserver.net, which suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi is keen on giving the left-arm pacer another chance in the national team.

The left-arm had made a Pakistan comeback in 2016 after the completion of his five-year ban which he faced due to his role in a spot-fixing scandal during a 2010 Test match in England. The 147 matches Amir has played for Pakistan across formats has seen him pick 259 wickets.

“Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty,” said Sethi.

Chairman of the selection committee Haroon Rasheed supported Sethi’s statement and said players should keep their heads in the game.

During the PSL 2023, Amir was also in the news for his comment on Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Ahead of his side Karachi Kings’ match against Babar’s Peshawar Zalmi, he had said that he would not differentiate between Babar and a tailender while bowling for his team.

In this season, Amir had also made headlines for his comment on Pakistan captain Babar Azam, saying that he would not differentiate between Babar and a tailender while bowling for his team. The comment did not sit well with some Pakistan cricketers, including Shaheen Afridi, who suggested that Amir should show respect towards the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
