UIDAI announces free Aadhaar card update for next three months
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that people can now update their Aadhaar card details online free of cost. The move is part of the Digital India initiative and is expected to benefit millions of residents. The free service will be available on the ‘myAadhaar’ portal for the next three months, starting from March 15, 2023.
How to avail the service
To update their Aadhaar card details online, users need to log in on https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ using their Aadhaar number, after which a one-time password will be sent to their registered mobile number. Users can then select the ‘document update’ icon, verify their existing details, and upload the required Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents from the dropdown list.
Service only available online
The free Aadhaar card update service is only available on the ‘myAadhaar’ portal and not at physical Aadhaar centres. The UIDAI clarified that the service would continue to attract a fee of ₹50 at physical centres, as before.
Update required every 10 years
According to the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, Aadhaar card holders need to update their supporting documents at least once every 10 years from the date of enrolment to ensure the accuracy of their information. This improves service delivery and enhances authentication success rate, as many government schemes are based on Aadhaar information.
