On Sunday morning, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake hit north of the J&K capital Srinagar at 6:57 am. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage.
The NCS had reported two earthquakes in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan region shortly before the J&K earthquake. The first of these was a 4.3 magnitude quake on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border at 6:10 am, which the NCS reported in a tweet. According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km and had a location of 267km ENE of Fayzabad.
Just prior to the J&K earthquake, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported another earthquake in Afghanistan. The sequence of earthquakes in the region raises concerns about the possibility of more seismic activity. However, authorities have not issued any warnings or advisories in response to the quakes
