India pacer Umran Malik said he would break Shoaib Akhtar’s fastest ball record. The former Pakistan speedster had bowled his fastest delivery at 161.3 kmph against England during the 2003 ODI World Cup.

Speaking to New24, Malik said he could go past Shoaib’s record if he does well and is lucky, insisting that his main aim is to perform for the country.

“If I do well and if I am lucky, I will break Shoaib Akhtar’s fastest delivery record. But I am not thinking about it. I want to perform well for the India national cricket team,” said Umran.

The 23-year-old doesn’t want to bowl fast, and his focus is to put the ball in the right areas.

“I didn’t realize the speed of my deliveries and came to know only when I returned to the dressing room. During the game, my focus is to take wickets for the team,” he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir pacer is a part of India’s squad for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. He will be looking to impress and book a place in the team for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
