Reliance Jio has officially unveiled its 5G services, and major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata are said to get the connectivity option by Diwali 2022 in October. Jio has also said that the company is launching its innovative solution to allow customers to enjoy fiber-like data speeds over the air without any wires called JioAirFiber. It is essentially a wireless solution to allow users to create a Wi-Fi hotspot at home. Jio is upping the game by bringing 5G connectivity to JioAirFiber.
At its 45th AGM (annual general meeting), Jio chairperson Akash Ambani said that with a single device, JioAirFiber would be easy to use and connect any home or office to gigabit-speed internet. “With the simplicity of JioAirFiber, hundreds of millions of homes and offices can be connected to ultra-high-speed broadband in a very short period. With it, India can rank among the Top-10 nations, even for fixed broadband,” he added.
Jio also demonstrated its capabilities, and one of the use-cases include watching live sports programmes on a device without any lag. The company has also launched Cloud PC, which is a thin device with a “pay for what you use” model. It is said to be a virtual PC with no upfront investments or upgrades. Its exact functioning details remain unclear.
Currently, Jio is also yet to offer prices of its Jio 5G plans. The cost of the JioAirFiber remains unclear. Jio hopes to cover all towns in India with 5G connectivity by December 2023.
