Petrol and diesel prices rose on Tuesday in all four metros in the country as international crude oil prices climbed to a three-year high. This was the first hike for petrol in over 2 months while diesel prices saw a rise for the fourth consecutive day today.
The last increase in petrol rate was on July 17.
According to a price statement from state-owned fuel dealers, in Delhi, petrol rates reached Rs 101.39 per litre, with a hike of Rs 0.20, while diesel saw a hike of Rs 0.25 for the second consecutive day and reached Rs 89.57 per litre.
Petrol prices in Mumbai rose to Rs 107.47 per litre, after a hike of Rs 0.21 – the costliest in the country. Rates of diesel reached Rs 97.21 per litre after an increase of Rs 0.27.
Petrol in Kolkata is being sold at Rs 101. 87 per litre after an increase of Rs 0.25, while diesel costs Rs 92.67 a litre, up by Rs. 0.25.
Chennai saw a hike of Rs 0.19, taking the cost of petrol to Rs 99.15 per litre. Diesel costs Rs 94.17 a litre, dearer by Rs. 0.24 for the second consecutive day.
On September 24, state-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) resumed daily price revisions, ending a rate freeze that had been in effect since September 5.
